The Value of an Independent Agent
Some people think it doesn’t matter where they buy their insurance. But buying insurance isn’t like buying bread or milk. Selecting an insurance agent is as important as selecting the right doctor or attorney for your family or business needs.
There is a difference in where you buy your protection and many people don’t realize there are three sources for insurance:
- Captive agents: Agents who can sell you the insurance product of only one company.
- Telephone representatives: Agents who can offer you the insurance of one company, and only on the telephone.
- Independent Insurance Agents: Agents who represent an average of eight insurance companies, and research with the firms to find you the best combination of price, coverage and services.
Why use an insurance agent at all? According to some insurance companies, an agent is an unnecessary middleman who brings nothing to the transaction but added costs. Before you try and buy into that argument, you need to ask yourself a few questions.
What do you know about insurance? I mean really know. Not the stuff you read in the financial magazines or newspapers, or a story told by a friend or neighbor, but the nuts and bolts of insurance. Do you fully understand why insurance exists and how it is supposed to work? Can you read and understand an insurance policy? Are you familiar with insurance law? If you are like most people, your answer to these questions is going to be no. That is why you need an agent.
The Independent Agent can place insurance with any of a number of insurance companies. This means we find the best policy for you, not just “one size fits all” boiler-plate policy. And if something unfortunate occurs that results in a policy cancellation or non-renewal, we will be able to find a replacement policy for you.
The Independent Agent is able to assist you with all your personal and business insurance needs-you will no longer need one agent for your car, another for your home, and yet another for business. Independent Agents offer expertise in various types of coverage and are there to serve and protect your financial assets.
