Get Your Company Vehicles Covered
Many businesses have commercial auto policies that cover the vehicles that the company owns and operates and think that covers all their business auto exposure. Many businesses do not own commercial vehicles and think their business are safe from commercial auto claims. If you are one of those, you may have potential automobile exposures that you are not aware of. If you have employees, you may have exposure.
If one of your employees uses their personal car for company businesses and has a car accident, your business might be exposed.
- Have you ever sent an employee to the bank or post office for company businesses?
- Has an employee ever gone to pick up lunch for the rest of the office?
- Do you have a sales staff that uses their personal vehicles to make sales calls?
If an employee has an accident in their personal car while under any of these situations, your company can be held responsible and sue for damages. Business auto policies provide coverage for employees while they operate company owned vehicles to perform company business.
Hired and Non-owned Automobile Liability Coverage protects the business if one of your employees has an accident in their personal car while conduction company business. If the damage amount exceeds the employee’s personal limits and then passed onto the business. Without Hired and Non-owned the business would have to write a check for the damages. Having this option on your policy will have your insurance policy pay for the claim made against the business.
This coverage is typically added to the Commercial/Business Auto policy but if you do not have a commercial auto policy, it can be added to your General Liability policy.
